Cleaning my kalk paste "needle".
« on: March 13, 2010, 11:20:57 AM »
Ok... I've got a "needle" from a package of Joes Juice and it's starting to get clogged. It's like it's layering up inside the applicator. I've tried digging at it with various things... no luck.

It's the 45°, metal and plastic needle. I thought about boiling it, but was worried that it would melt the plastic part.

What would dissolve this stuff?

Thanks in advance.

Mine did the same thing. I used a paper clip and some compressed air to blow it out. Then soaked it in vinegar over night.

I second the vinegar, if you donakt have a compressor you can use a can of compressed air like you would use on a computer.  The tip off of that would be good to get in and blow it out.
75 Gallon Main tank
3" Sand Bed
117 Pounds Kaelini/Tonga Deepwater Liverock
29 Gallon Sump/Refugium
Hippo Tang
2 Black Percs
Coral Banded Shrimp

Yep. vinegar should at least loosen the kalk and a paperclip (if small enough) should also help to dislodge the clog.

The vinegar worked great! I didn't even need to get my compressor out.

Ha! I knew the answer to that one... unfortunately. Our local water is FILLED with lime, and we are continuously having to soak stuff in vinegar. It's so bad, we buy the cheapest coffee pots they sell, KNOWING that the poor thing is disposable. :\

you could probably also get new needles at Walgreens / CVS etc.  They won't give you too many, ya druggie, but if you explain what you are doing (and look respectable) they will give them out.
